Beach Boys

It's only really been the last 9 months that I have started listening to the Beach Boys again. I stopped listening to them at about age 12. I guess the reason I stopped listening to them was because my friends at the time would have thought the Beach Boys were the uncoolest band in history. People would not have had the slightest idea that I was a closet B.B. fan. I think for the longest time I even forgot that I was. I was so far removed from the real me then, as a teenager you just wanna fit in.

As a kid these guys were my favourite band. It was the first time I ever listened to music that wasn't just being played by my parents. I used to sit in my room listening to Beach Boys cassette tapes for hours. The first time I heard 'Sloop John B' at about age 6 it blew my mind. I knew nothing about music but I knew there was something special about that song.

Anyone that thinks the Beach Boys are 'uncool' has got so much to learn. Rolling Stone magazine ranked 'Pet Sounds' as number 2 on their list of 500 greatest albums of all time, 'Good Vibrations' as number 6 on their list of 500 best songs of all time and number 12 on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. Just ask Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney or Bob Dylan about the genius of Brian Wilson.

I just wish my parents has a copy of 'Pet Sounds' when I was growing up. Anyways I really should be studying right now. Stay tuned for a Fleet Foxes rant real soon.

(Almost) Feels Like Summer

The last couple of days have actually been quite warm. I'm looking forward to summer this year. It should be one to remember.

As winter slowly fades here's a song guaranteed to get you in the mood for the warmer months ahead. With a reference to Maggie May being played on the jukebox how could it not.

Two One

So today I turn 21. The thing is though, I feel so much older. I guess it's because of everything I've been through over the last few years. I feel as if those events have aged me at least ten years.

It is so true though, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I wouldn't be the person I am today without those experiences, so it's not all bad. Things can only get better I suppose.......

Are you aching for the grave? That's OK, we're insured.

This was one of my favourite songs from 2001 and it has a pretty sweet film clip as well.

'Getting Away with It (All Messed Up)' by James

Hurdy Gurdy Man

I don't care how uncool people say Donovan is I still love this song.

Apparently he was going to give it to Jimi Hendrix to record. Maybe if he did it would have got the cred it deserves.
